There are those that say good health is all in the hands of God but, more likely, it is God who teaches us the correct way to eat, the healthy things in our environment and the way to eat food to health the body. Food is part of our spiritual life as we eat those things that spiritually bring our bodies into balance.

Part of what God gives us in order to stay healthy is the knowledge of what the various diseases are and how to help them. We learn to understand how eating makes diseases better and how eating in certain ways can prevent disease. Preventing disease through diet is something that both alternative medicine and modern-day medicine have in common. There are known components of food that keep diseases at bay and keep us both physically and emotionally healthy.

People who are relatively poor need to take more care to eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. Cut down on processed foods which are cheaper but aren’t very healthy for you. The temptation of processed foods can make you sicker than you would normally be. Even so, people who are poor have a lesser chance of being healthy than those who are wealthy.

We should always start eating those foods that are the healthiest for you, resorting to desserts and processed foods only after you have eaten enough healthy foods. This allows you to have some processed foods but not before you’ve eaten fruits, vegetables, high fiber foods and lean meats. Eating this way prevents anemia, keeps certain cancers at bay and can lower your cholesterol.

See your doctor for regular checkups. These visits will assess your blood pressure, blood sugar and serum cholesterol numbers. Your weight and BMI can be checked to see if you are normal weight, overweight or obese. Talk to your doctor about your eating habits and exercise habits; take a look at which things you can improve in order to improve your health at every visit.

We learn that activity and exercise are important to good health. People who sit a lot and don’t walk or run will gain weight and have increased fat values in their body. This increases the levels of heart disease and certain types of cancer. God teaches us that we can help ourselves by exercising at least three times per week. Exercise helps prevent certain diseases in the absence of good eating and should be a regular part of how you live your life.
